Getting Started with Oracle

>A friend recently sent me this link.

It’s a ‘Getting Started’ page on the Oracle website, with a lot of good resources for beginner DBA’s and developers.

The DBA section includes a ‘Core Tasks’ list which will guide you through most things from downloading the software to learning about backup and recovery.

There are also areas for learning about Enterprise Management and Oracle Security.

Some of the links will guide you through to the relevant OTN page for downloading software, whilst others are step-by-step guides as part of the Oracle by Example (OBE) tutorials.

I have used the OBE tutorials in the past when learning about Oracle Warehouse Builder and BI Publisher and have found them to be very useful as they included detailed instructions and screen shots.

The developers section has resources on various technologies including Oracle Database XE, Java for Forms Developers, Application Express, SQL Developer and BPEL.

It’s well worth a look, and nice to see Oracle putting something together that is dedicated to Newbies!

    >Lisa, thanks for pointing this out. MOst people don’t think of OTN as a starting point for beginners, but it really is.

    >It is odd that they did not mention SQL or PL/SQL in the “For Developers” column.
